We partnered with Black Cultural Archives to create a dynamic online platform for their historical timelines.
The Black Cultural Archives (BCA) is the UK’s home of Black history. They’re dedicated to collecting, preserving, and celebrating the narratives of African and Caribbean descent in Britain. Their mission is to inspire and empower individuals, communities, and society. We created an intuitive platform that would enable the BCA team to digitally curate their collections. The primary challenge was to design a system that could elegantly display complex historical timelines, allowing for the seamless integration of diverse media – images, audio, and video – all while ensuring optimal performance across a multitude of devices.
We tackled this by engineering a flexible content management framework that simplifies the creation and arrangement of chronological events. This system provides the BCA with full control, enabling them to easily build and update detailed timelines. The design language itself was carefully developed to align with the BCA’s established brand identity, utilising their distinct colour palette and graphic styles to ensure visual cohesion and reinforce their powerful mission.
